Philippines-based Udenna Corporation which is part of Mislatel Consortium is now considering the possibility of utilizing the fiber optic infrastructures owned by National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). By using the existing fiber facilities, Mislatel can launch its telecommunication services in the Philippines. Udenna and NGCP had signed an MoU to conduct the feasibility.
Philippines’ power transmission grid is operated by NGCP, which owns a significant amount of telecommunication network built for its own purpose. Mislatel said the MoU NGCP will help its operations by using fiber optic cables that run along the transmission grid.
Udenna Corporation is a holdings company by the Udenna Group of Companies which is based in Davao City, the Philippines founded by businessman Dennis Uy. Primarily involved in the petroleum and shipping industry in its initial years of existence, the company later diversified and became involved in other industries such as real estate and telecommunications.
Udenna intends to conduct joint studies to determine the feasibility of the consortium’s use of NGCP’s fiber optic facilities. This is in line with the consortium’s resolve to achieve its committed level of speed and coverage as the New Major Player (NMP) in the Philippine telecommunications industry.
