UK’s broadband provider Hyperoptic has appointed new Managing Director and joins hands with others in its new executive team. Moray Falconer has been appointed as Managing Director, Infrastructure at Hyperoptic. Falconer joins Charles Davies, MD, ISP, and Pascal Koster, CTIO, and will report into its CEO, Dana Tobak, CBE.
Different from conventional business strategies, Hyperoptic work directly with its partners to roll out fibre-optic broadband services. Founded in 2011, Hyperoptic works with freeholders and developers to offer fibre optic internet to the building. This Fiber to the Building (FTTB) model is not offered by many in the UK. Fiber will be terminated at the building basement. From the basement of the building, Hyperoptic will take Cat5 Ethernet for distribution to the apartments.
Hyperoptic had received a £50 million investment in May 2013 from Quantum Strategic Partners Ltd, a private investment vehicle managed by Soros Fund Management.
The new Managing Director will be responsible for the successful rollout of Hyperoptic’s national full fibre network, which is set to reach 50 cities by Q1 2019 and pass two million homes by 2021. Falconer will also be leading Hyperoptic’s new “Hyper Cities” rollout that consists of over 5,000 kilometers metro fibre network, using DPA as a key component, which is due to take place next year in Greater London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Leeds.
A Civil engineer by qualification, Falconer has a twenty-year track record in successfully delivering major infrastructure projects. He has executed large, complex linear civil infrastructure programs across the world, including critical rail infrastructure, large diameter potable water pipelines, and major road and bridge infrastructure with smart highway technologies.
