Seventh FTTH Council MENA Conference Starts in Muscat

The seventh FTTH Council-MENA conference has started in Muscat from today, the 9th October 2015. The conference will be for three days starting from 9th October and ending on 11th October 2015. This year’s event includes a pre-conference workshop and a Roadshow followed by a technical workshop on 9th October. Oman’s Minister of Transport and Communication Dr. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Futaisi will inaugurate the Seventh Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council Mena Conference.

The pre-conference day on 9th October starts with a presentation by Mr. Richard Jones of Ventura Next about Mini-MBA in Fiber to the Home and Next Generation Access. This presentation re-appraise assumptions and consider afresh how to create future-proof digital infrastructures, build stronger operators, and achieve economic and social benefits while limiting risk. The presentation gives an opportunity for property owners, M&A consultants, Planners, Infra developers, Telecom professionals, regional and city economic and community strategists to hear what works and what doesn’t work in deploying infrastructures. The presenter shares experience in how to manage more than 100 municipalities and local networks, leading NGA deployments in the UK and other parts of the world, FTTH deployment in joint-venture with the electricity company, ownership of the number one open-access operator in Sweden, etc.

The three-day event is organized under the theme of ‘FTTH, the edge of a brighter tomorrow’. Senior representatives of major companies operating in information technology and communication (IT&C) in the Sultanate and the region will visit the FTTH conference. It is a great chance for all related to Fiber optics in the MENA region to come under one umbrella. The conference provides an ideal opportunity to share experience and knowledge on the challenges and opportunities related to FTTH in the Mena region.

Eng. Said bin Abdullah Al Mantheri, chief executive officer of Oman Broadband Company said that the organization of this event in the Sultanate comes at a time Oman has activated its new trends, which aim at promoting the use of broadband internet in all governorates through the activation of its national broadband strategy.

On the sidelines of the event, there will be a promotional demonstration on exploring the infrastructure for the optic fibers infrastructure.

Due to the growing demand for communications and technology service, the conference will include an area dedicated to the ‘World of Applications’ to highlight the ways in which fiber to the home, and the increased speeds it can deliver, enable new services for both residential and business subscribers.

A special session will take place on the first day of the conference in the dedicated area for application demonstration and discussion. The aim of this demonstration is to describe and highlight applications supported by the fiber optic ‘nervous system’ of a telecom network and the applications that could cover any area of the government.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the FTTH conference will open the floor for discussion about Oman’s national broadband strategy, the new opportunities, challenges and effective strategies associated with promoting high-speed broadband for homes, and the business opportunities in the Middle East and North African (Mena) region.
