Oman based Fiber optic broadband service provider Awasr has signed pact with Oman Broadband Company (OBC) to roll out services from 2016. Awasr claims to be the only fiber optic broadband service provider in the Sultanate of Oman. The agreement with OBC will allow Awasr to launch its ultra-fast internet services to the houses and businesses across the country.
Awasr will launch its fiber optic broadband services next year in Al Khoudh, Mawaleh, Al Hail, Shatti al Qurum, Ma’abela and Ghubra by accessing OBC’s fiber optic broadband network that reaches over 70,000 residential and business properties in Muscat.
The pact was signed by H H Sayyid Taimur bin Assad al Said, chairman of Awasr and Said bin Abdullah al Mantheri, chief executive officer of OBC under the auspices of H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.
OBC officials told they are excited to support a new service provider through their fiber optic cable network. This is a strong example of how Oman’s national broadband strategy can make a difference. The ultimate aim of the strategy is to develop a shared telecom infrastructure that is utilized by all services providers in the country. This will allow them to focus on delivering smart services through a single network rather than investing their resources into building standalone networks.
The pact between the two companies is noticeable at a time when the seventh FTTH Council MENA conference is going on in Muscat, Oman. The event started yesterday, 9th November will continue until tomorrow, 11th November. FTTH Council conference has become a platform for companies to come together and share their experiences in deploying fiber optic broadband services in different countries in the region.
Officials from Awasr told that by providing services through OBC’s network, they can deliver considerably higher speeds and enhance the overall experience. Their cutting-edge technology will boost the sultanate’s digital infrastructure and act as an enabler for SME growth. Awasr teams have already started trial run in certain areas and has delivered connections of up to 1Gbps to their users.
Awasr will launch some of its high-speed services to home and business customers in early 2016, with additional product releases taking place throughout the year. Those interested will soon have a wide range of channels to obtain more details about the full scope of our broadband packages. Awasr has partnered with firms from across the globe to focus on quality and delivery. It has tied up with Singapore’s ViewQwest which has 13 years of experience as a broadband service provider. ViewQwest is the first company to launch 2 Gbps service to its subscribers in Singapore.
