UPC Cablecom acquires the Monchaltorf fiber optic network from its partner, Antennen-Genossenschaft Monchaltorf (AGM). The UK based UPC Cablecom is the leading cable broadband service provider in Switzerland. Cablecom is continuing its acquisition efforts in the local market. The current fiber optic cable network is in the Zurich municipality of Monchaltorf.
Purchase of the network is with retroactive effect as of 1 January 2015. With the acquisition, around 1,250 AGM subscribers in Monchaltorf will now be able to benefit from Cablecom’s innovative products and services and have secured themselves access to the future of telecommunications and entertainment.
UPC Cablecom has a long history of acquisitions. UPC Cablecom Holdings GmbH, trading exclusively under the brand name UPC cablecom, is the largest broadband cable operator in Switzerland. Founded 1994 through multiple mergers between smaller companies, it is part of Liberty Global Europe’s UPC Broadband division since the end of 2005.
Cablecom operates in Switzerland. Cablecom’s services are available in cities of Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Berne, Lausanne, Lucerne and Winterthur, and Vorarlberg (Austria) The service provider serves more than 1.56 million cable television customers, as well as approximately 250 smaller broadband cable operators.
Over the last three years, Cablecom has augmented its own fiber optic network rollout projects with the acquisition of networks owned by partners. In January 2015, Cablecom acquired Uznachcable. In July 2014 Cablecom acquired Tele-Pregny-Chambesy and in September 2014 it acquired Komtech Group.
