British Telecom subsidiary, Openreach will hire more than 220 trainee engineers across Scotland as part of its recruitment drive announced today. Those who wish to pursue a career with one the UK’s prime telecommunication engineering company, this is the right time to apply.
Openreach currently employs 30,400 people who connect homes, mobile phone masts, schools, shops, banks, hospitals, libraries, broadcasters, governments and businesses across the United Kingdom.
The new trainees will be posted in locations throughout Scotland from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway. It is expected that the job fair will attract trainees to join the UK’s largest team of telecoms experts engaged in expanding, upgrading, maintaining and providing installation services over Openreach’s national broadband network.
The vacancy breakups follow;
Glasgow city region: 48 posts
Edinburgh and the Lothians: 38
Aberdeen city and shire: 34
Remaining 100 trainees will be posted in locations like Highlands & Islands, Dumfries & Galloway, Stirling, Ayrshire, and Perth & Kinross.
Openreach said, more than 3,000 trainee engineers are being recruited across the UK. Around 1,600 of them will be engaged in helping to deliver the ‘Fibre First’ programme, which is bringing faster, more reliable and future proof Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology to millions of front doors.
Openreach is now creating fiber training centers across the UK in Bradford, Bolton, Crawley, Exeter, Livingston, Newport, Nursling, Peterborough, Romford, Thornaby, Yarnfield and Northern Ireland. There is a new training school in Peterborough, which is one of 12 centers being built or upgraded across the UK. Peterborough school is the second that becomes fully operational under Openreach’s investment plans. Openreach is preparing to invest an amount of £450,000 to start its Scottish training center in Livingston.
Successful applicants in England and Wales who complete 12 months at Openreach will receive a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals. Scottish joiners will receive a Diploma for IT and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF Level.
Openreach hired 3,500 new engineers in 2018 across the UK. Approximately 1,600 posts of the new trainees in 2019 are created from the attrition that includes retirement.
