Telecom Italia expanded its fiber optic networks in the northern city of Pistoia that will be used for delivering fiber optic broadband services while serving as the backbone for its mobile services. The provider invested around 3.5 million euros for the expansion. The network is ready and is put into operation now. Quality of telecommunication services in the northern Tuscan city of Pistoia will be enhanced by the deployment of high speed fiber optic lines.
Telecom Italia used non-invasive, minimum impact deployment techniques to roll out 45 kilometers of fiber optic cables. The network would be beneficial to around 60 percent of the local population when it connects around 20,000 houses in the region. Telecom Italia intends to deliver internet speeds of up to 50 Mbps. Telecom Italia provides high bandwidth services over its Fiber to the cabinet (FTTC) networks. The service provider plans to connect 70 percent of the local population to its FTTC network by the end of this year.
Apart from FTTC networks, Pistoia also has the distinction of being the first city in the country to have access to the operator’s LTE-A service, which is marketed in the name TIM 4G Plus. This service allows TIM customers to access the internet on the go at speeds of up to 225 Mbps, around twice the highest theoretical speed available on standard 4G networks.
