City buildings in Upper Arlington will get connected to the Public Library branches and schools with a high-speed fiber optic network. The City council has approved a memorandum of understanding that is expected to lay the foundation for construction and funding of a $2.64 million fiber optic network.
Upper Arlington is an affluent suburban city in Franklin County, Ohio, United States, on the northwest side of the Columbus metropolitan area. The population is around 34,000.
The city council would provide the initial capital expenses for building the network. The library and school district would pay annual fees to the city to have high-speed Internet access that the network would provide.
Preliminary estimations suggest that the city would spend around $68,400 annually for building the network, lighting, maintenance, and operation. Upper Arlington schools would pay $177,900 annually, and the library would contribute $17,616 each year.
The memorandum approved by the city states that it will award a contract to a fiber optic network construction company and electronics vendor in July 2015. The target for delivering services to the city, library, and schools is July 2016.
