A new fiber optic cable manufacturing facility has been established in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The company named Global Emirates Cables & Systems Industries supported by Korea based LS cable group for cable production is expected to start manufacturing of optical cables from the third quarter of 2015. Global Emirates Cable (GEC) will be the first fiber optic cable manufacturing company in the Emirates.
Located strategically in the U.A.E, the new setup for fiber optic cables at initial stage, GEC will focus to meet customer requirements in the Middle East Asian countries as well as in the African nations. The U.A.E itself has been a good market for fiber optic cables, connectors, patchcords, panels, boxes, cabinets, cable trays, active components, other opto-electronic products, tools and telecommunication automation test instruments etc for the past 10 years. The demand was generated by the massive investment of one U.A.E’s leading telecom service providers, Etisalat. Etisalat’s networks run across the length and breadth of U.A.E.
The new cable factory in U.A.E will create jobs in fiber optic industry to the locals as well as to the expatriates. GEC offers fiber optic cables produced in U.A.E, end-to-end fiber optic solutions, training in fiber optics and field splicing and testing services. Focusing on multiple services in fiber optic industry, it is expected that GEC will be capable of generating employments to multiple skilled fiber optic technicians and engineers.
Though the pace of fiber optic network deployment in U.A.E has been slowed down, GEC can still supply fiber optic products to the network projects coming up in U.A.E, mainly in Greenfield deployment areas. U.A.E tops the ranking done by FTTH Council for the list of countries with mote than 1 percent penetration of fiber to the home or fiber to the business networks. While most of the brownfield deployments are nearing saturation, greenfield is still an area where telecom products suppliers look for business.
Telecommunication infrastructure building, especially investment in next generation networks have been progressing in many Arab countries. Deployments by Saudi Arabian telecom operators such as STC and Mobily has created business and job opportunities in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries such as Oman. For example, Oman Fiber Optic Co., has been a supplier of cables to Saudi Arabia. Broadband initiatives by Oman Broadband Company opened the door for Ooredoo and Omantel in service offering sectors. FTTH deployments in Qatar is also showing progress, while Bahrain is now catching up with the developments happening in its neighboring countries. GEC can not only supply products but also train potential manpower to benefit to the projects in these countries.
New cable factory for fiber optic cable will be able to deliver products in short time for customers who depend far east countries such as Japan, Korea and China for their products. GEC is an addition to the group of already existing fiber optic cable makers in the region such as OFO (Oman Fiber Optic Co) in Oman, MEFC (Middle East Fiber Cable Co), Riyadh Cables, Saudi Cables and Amwaj in Saudi Arabia, El-sewedy and Energya in Egypt.
GEC provides Fiber Optic Cables, Connectorization and polishing, End to End Solutions, Housing Training in Fiber Optic and Services in field (Splicing-Testing).
