Optical Fiber Measurements Engineer Job in OFS Fitel, Norcross

JOB PURPOSE:

Technical lead for the development and support of optical fiber test and measurements equipment including OTDR, dispersion, cutoff, geometry, curl, splice, and FTIR in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Program custom client and web applications to process measurement data according to EIA TIA standards.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

BS degree in Optical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 2-5 Years

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

MS degree in Optical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics

Manufacturing experience in a high-volume production environment

SQL Database or equivalent experience

Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean practices is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Proficient in programming C#, Python, Visual Basic with 2-5 years of proven work experience

Work with fiber optics equipment for OTDR, dispersion, cutoff, geometry, curl, splice and FTIR from manufacturers including Photon Kinetics, PE.fiberoptics, Agilent, Ericsson

Create and Update Client and web applications for fiber optical measurements equipment that meet EIA TIA standards

Evaluate and integrate automation

Specify instrumentation/controls, integrate into existing hardware/software or build new, and transfer into manufacturing to support single mode fiber optics including G.657.A1, G.657.A2, G.652.D, G.654.B

Extract data from SQL database, analyze and make process decisions

Investigate and troubleshoot hardware or software issues

Design novel processes to increase productivity and reduce variability

Develop alternatives to aging equipment, demonstrate feasibility, and implement changes

Interact with operations, Maintenance, IT, and R&D staff to accomplish shared goals

Take on the lead role for short-term and long-term projects and see through to completion with minimal supervision
