The wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Electric Company (SEC), Dawiyat Integrated (Dawiyat) has selected Nokia to develop an Industry 4.0 Ecosystem throughout its operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Dawiyat is a special vehicle under the state utility company formed to boost fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments in the Kingdom. Dawiyat has been awarded a license to deploy high-speed broadband services in Saudi Arabia along with Saudi Telecom Company.
The collaboration supports the Saudi National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020 and Saudi Vision 2030 to enable firms to use digital tools for more sustainable growth. The collaboration with Nokia will help Dawiyat to work on multiple projects to develop the ecosystem for Industry 4.0 in the country. Nokia’s path-breaking solutions and Dawiyat Integrated’s vision will together help in building infrastructure for the next generation of services.
Industry 4.0 technologies such as the Internet of Things, robotics, augmented intelligence and automation support digital transformation, which enables significant gains in productivity, efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed under the terms of which Nokia and Dawiyat will work together on multiple initiatives:
– 10 million smart meters to serve the citizens and businesses all over the Kingdom in accordance with the NTP 2020. Nokia’s solutions and expertise will help Dawiyat to better manage the infrastructure and use analytics for improved customer experience.
– Nokia and Dawiyat Integrated will jointly explore working to deploy Industry 4.0 infrastructure and smart industrial solutions to enable companies to benefit from increased productivity and efficiency with integrated infrastructure and services.
– Nokia will also be one of the technology partners for deployment of a Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) and IP Multi Protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) communications infrastructure for Dawiyat Integrated FTTH infrastructure.
– Nokia and Dawiyat will collaborate to develop solutions to help the mining industry use digital solutions to adapt to fluctuations in demand, better control operational expenditures and enhance safety.
What is Industry 4.0?
Modern telecommunication technologies have started revolutionizing industrial production all over the world. Production output and performance are no more depended on the power of physical things only in any Industry.
Industry 4.0 is the term coined for indicating the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. Industry 4.0 t includes Cyber-Physical Systems, IoT, Cloud Computing and Cognitive Computing.
If we see the wireless industry, we say 5G to say the 5th generation developments in the mobile/wireless telecommunications. In the same way, the term Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution.
In other words, Industry 4.0 is equal to “Smart factory”. Since the Kingdom has a shortage of skilled manpower and has always been depending on other countries to fill this vacuum, the developments in the Industry 4.0 will help the companies in Saudi Arabia to optimize their productivity and performance cost-effectively.
Industry 4.0 is also called as I4.0 or simply I4. The concept was originated from a project in the high-tech strategy of the German government, which promotes the computerization of manufacturing.
Industry 4.0 creates modular structured smart factories. The physical things are connected to cyber systems. The cyber systems monitor physical processes and create a virtual copy of the physical world that will help to make decentralized decisions.
Using the IoT, the Cyber connected physical systems communicate and cooperate with each other and with humans in real-time both internally and across organizational services.
Industry 4.0 is the next step after the computerization process happened in the Kingdom. The computerization and process automation had helped the industries in the country to enhance productivity.
