DESCRIPTION
This position is based at the Torquay facility and will focus on leading the development of new fiber-optic laser modules and sub-systems for harsh environment, satellite and UAV laser communications and sensing. You will be directly reporting to senior level and closely working with product management and other commercial corporate functions to enable technology transfer and new product development. You will have a management role within the group and work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop new products for sensing, Aerospace & Defence (A&D) and space.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercialize new photonic products for sensing, A&D and space
Manage and grow a team of engineers and technicians
Design, develop and test key fibre-optic sub-systems for sensing and communications such as laser sources, transmitters, amplifiers and receivers.
Contribute in business reviews on future product portfolios and assist in the generation and submission of technical and financial proposals to customers.
Work closely with G&H engineers and product managers in the UK and US to develop new products by functionally integrating components manufactured in other G&H sites.
Deliver technical and management reviews and produce reports resulting from technical activities, executing technical projects on time and under budget.
Travel expected to be <5% of the time.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Strong photonics knowledge base including fiber lasers and fiber amplifiers is required
Hands-on experience on building and testing fiber-optic, optoelectronic and electronic sub-systems
Experience in product development of fibre-optic products
Ability to generate proposals and manage the financial and technical aspects of projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to strongly engage customers technically and collaboratively. Comfortable in creating and giving technical presentations at short notice
Degree in Engineering or Physics with specialization in photonics required.
At least 5 years industrial experience required.
