Vodafone Ghana has decided to deliver and expand its high-speed broadband services in the country. The operator will utilize next-generation networks that primarily rely on fiber optic communication technologies. More than 1000 homes and 20 housing communities across Ghana will get connected to the Vodafone Fibre–To–The-Home Broadband services.
The steps taken by Vodafone in Ghana shows the company’s intention to provide consumers the enhanced communication services delivered through the latest telecom technology using optical fibers. While providing higher broadband speeds the Fiber optic technology contributes to the growth of the GDP of the country. Therefore investments in fiber optic networks have been encouraged and supported by government authorities as well. Launching the new Vodafone Fibre Broadband Service in EMEFS estate, one of the communities in the Greater Accra Region, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba, noted that as the premier telecom company operating a fixed network in Ghana, Vodafone is committed to always offering customers the best of experiences. She said the deployment of state-of-the-art fiber optic infrastructure would transform communities in Ghana.
Compared to legacy networks, fiber optic networks offer reliable faster data transfer solutions and hence attractive telecommunication operators as well as data center companies. The fiber optic broadband technology delivers significantly faster download broadband speed than conventional broadband ADSL and (modern) ADSL2+ services. Fiber to the home-based broadband is preferred by subscribers who wish to send and receive seamless data. Service providers in advanced countries such as Japan have started offering 1 Gbps to the residential subscribers.
Vodafone Ghana is partnering communities and real estate developers at key locations across the country to deliver this new technology. The company has partner key stakeholders within the country’s housing industry including the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association to roll out this service, and educating and encouraging developers and homeowners to see the need to make provision for telecom service as the third utility after water and electricity.
“We are partnering communities and real estate developers at key locations across the country to deliver this new technology. We encourage developer’s and homeowners to make the provision of telecom service the third utility after water and electricity and give us the opportunity to be the provider of choice for home and office internet,” she explained.
Over 1000 homes, she disclosed, have been connected to the fiber network in 20 communities with more communities in line to experience the uniqueness of this new service.
