Houston based OneSubsea, a Cameron and Schlumberger company, has been awarded a contract from BP Exploration (Delta) Ltd., and partner Deutsche Erdoel AG (DEA), to supply subsea production systems that include fiber optic cables for the West Nile Delta Giza/Fayoum and Raven fields, situated offshore Egypt. Fiber optic cables will be used to control the communication in the gas and condensate fields. The engineering, procurement and construction contract in total is worth more than US$170 million, which the OneSubsea has won from the Petrobel (Belayim Petroleum Co.)
West Nile Delta (WND) project involves the development of gas and condensate fields located within the North Alexandria (N Alex) and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions in the Mediterranean sea, approximately 65km to 85km off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt. The gas and condensate fields are being developed in phases. The first phase involves the development of five major fields namely Taurus, Libra, Giza, Fayoum and Raven. The Maadi, Viper, Ruby, Polaris and Hodoa discoveries will be developed in later phases. BP is the operator, holding a 60% interest in the N Alex concession and 80% interest in the West Mediterranean Deepwater concession. RWE DEA is the partner in the project holding the remaining 40% interest in the N Alex concession and 20% interest in the West Mediterranean Deepwater concession. In March 2015, the two partners signed the final agreements for the project with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company. The overall investment for Phase I is estimated to be around US$12 billion.
Giza/Fayoum will be tied-back to modified onshore Rosetta facilities and integrated with a new onshore plant for Raven. The scope of the contract includes six horizontal SpoolTree subsea trees, intervention and workover control systems, landing string, tie-in, high-integrity pressure protection system, topsides, and subsea controls and distribution, water detection and salinity monitoring provided by the AquaWatcher water analysis sensor and installation and commissioning services. The FasTrac program comprises a strategic inventory capability with the flexibility to configure the system to the customer needs and deliver on a fast turnaround.

Zohr is one of the largest gas fields discovered in the Mediterranean Sea to date and is also the world’s second-longest step-out, a distance greater than 150 km (93 mi). This step-out will be enabled by OneSubsea controls systems with fiber-optic communications technology.

The award follows an accelerated front-end engineering and design study by OneSubsea in which a multidisciplinary team collaborated with Eni and Petrobel to develop the subsea equipment architecture and control system to validate the handling of high gas volumes, considering reservoir characteristics and subsea equipment specifications.
