Arizona based Cable ONE reveals its plan to begin construction of fiber-to-the-home in Gautier, Mississippi, in the new Shell Landing residential development. The cable company estimates that the cost of the project to be around US$250,000. The network deployment will be finished by this year October.
Cable ONE officials revealed the company’s plan to build out its fiber-optic network to an estimated 60 homes in Gautier. Gautier is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, along the Gulf of Mexico west of Pascagoula. The city is part of the Pascagoula Metropolitan Statistical Area with an estimated population of more than 18,600. Locally, Gautier is pronounced as “GO-chay.” Descendants of the Gautier family, for whom it was named, still live in the area.
Cable ONE has a strong customer base in Pascagoula currently. The company provides broadband access speeds of up to 200 Mbps speeds to its subscribers in Pascagoula. Pascagoula is said to be among the fastest currently available in the majority of Cable ONE markets. Pascagoula residents will have speeds up to a gigabit in the third quarter of 2016 with the company’s launch of its GigaONE service.
Cable ONE told last summer that it would double the downstream speeds of new and existing customers across 90 percent of its cable footprint. In October 2015, the company said it would deploy gigabit-speed services in 200 cities using one of the latest last-mile technology, DOCSIS 3.1. But the company has yet to declare a schedule for DOCSIS 3.1 deployment.
Cable ONE is among the 10 largest cable companies in the U.S. Formerly a wholly-owned subsidiary of Graham Holdings Company (previously The Washington Post Company), Cable ONE became a publicly-traded company in July 2015.
Headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, Cable ONE serves nearly 700,000 customers in 19 states with cable television, high-speed Internet, and telephone services. Cable ONE reports it has invested more than a half-billion dollars over the past five years on network upgrades and enhancements.
