NEOSHO Daily News reports the acquisition of Stouffer Communications by Wisper ISP. With this acquisition, Wisper ISP is able to expand its operations in Missouri. Wisper ISP is a Belleville, Ill.-based internet service provider. Stouffer began the company by offering Internet service in Granby and Diamond. John Stouffer of Neosho has decided to sell a business that he started in 1995 and grew over 20-plus years.
Wisper is headquartered at that quaint old barn in Belleville, Illinois but there are additional remote offices in Mt. Vernon, IL, Neosho, MO, and Joplin, MO. Now boasting a staff of 56, Wisper is considered a leader in the wireless industry because of its creative problem solving, excellent customer service, and experienced employees.
Stouffer will continue to run the decades-long, family-owned Granby Telephone and GTC Broadband, which provide telephone and broadband service to Granby, Diamond, Newtonia, Ritchey, and other areas of rural Newton County and beyond.
The purchase of Stouffer Communications adds more than 1,500 customers to the Wisper family. Stouffer Communications is comprised of customers in the Neosho and Joplin area and allows Wisper ample opportunity for future growth.
Wisper approached Stouffer because it was looking to expand operations in Missouri, he said. “I spent a good part of my life building that business.” Now, Stouffer said, he can concentrate on Granby Telephone and GTC Broadband.
“The Granby-Diamond operation is something I’ve been in all my life,” he said. “It lets me get back to focusing on what I’ve been doing before.
Stouffer said he looks forward to finishing his two-year plan to provide a fiber-optic cable to his core area and will look to expand to other areas.
“Fiber to homes is a significant investment,” he said, adding it’s worth it to not have to worry about outages due to weather. “It future proofs our network. Once you have the fiber-optic cable in the ground, you don’t have storm damage anymore.”
Wisper’s remote offices will remain in Neosho and Joplin, according to the company. Now with a staff of 56, Wisper is considered a leader in the wireless industry because of its problem solving, customer service, and experienced employees.
“This is a huge opportunity for Wisper,” CEO Nathan Stooke said. “Wisper plans to upgrade the current Stouffer network to Wisper standards and hopes to offer faster speeds in the future.”
