Vodafone Portugal has made it clear that they do not intend to share their new fiber optic infrastructures with Portugal Telecom. Vodafone has an agreement with Portugal Telecom to share their existing fiber optic investments in Portugal. The chairman of Vodafone Portugal, Mario Vaz, said that the existing infrastructure sharing contract with Portugal Telecom is operational, but there has been no sharing of new fiber optic cable investments.
Vodafone has been continually investing in fiber optic networks and the telecom operators say the goal for the expansion of the network, announced in November 2015 is in line with their plans and there would not be any delay or cancellation of the projects. Vodafone intends to pass over 500,000 homes by the end of March 2016. Overall, as of now, the operator intends to connect 2.75 million homes in Portugal.
