Swedish packet optical network solution provider Transmode has supplied it’s TM-Series carrier-class optical platform to Honduras based cable TV service provider Cable Color. In partnership with Japan based NEC, Transmode has delivered the equipment to support a new high capacity optical network built by Cable Color. Cable Color provides high definition television and data services to its subscribers in Honduras. The cable TV service provider Cable Color intends to enhance the quality of its services and also expand its business. The new network will enable Cable Color to meet rapidly growing capacity demands in Honduras.
Cable Color in Honduras has been experiencing rapid bandwidth growth from residential TV services, especially High Definition TV in addition to data services. The Transmode equipment will deliver the necessary high capacity optical network to meet both current and future demands and was designed and delivered by Transmode’s global sales partner NEC. The new optical fiber cable network is built on Transmode’s TM-Series and uses its Layer 2 capabilities which are particularly effective for the handling of video and data traffic. The fiber network utilizes the Ethernet Muxponder (EMXP II) 120 unit which provides 120G of Ethernet switching with 12x 10G transponders integrated into a single plug-in unit.
The TM-Series is a family of packet-optical transport products. This carrier-class platform provides the transport of any service between 10Mb/s and 100Gb/s in metro and metro core networks. Services include Ethernet, MPLS-TP, OTN and SDH/SONET. Combining cost efficient increase of capacity with selective Ethernet functionality, it offers the optimal way of capitalizing on today’s and tomorrow’s demanding services. With multi-dimensional scalability, the TM-Series’ products allow the packet-optical network to grow smoothly, both in capacity, size and functionality. Its modular design provides a valuable pay-as-you-grow approach. Integrated Ethernet capabilities in our Native Packet Optical architecture enables the TM-Series platform to offer advanced Layer 2/Layer 3 functionality reducing the need for expensive and complex equipment. The TM-Series includes solutions for a wide range of applications such as Mobile Transport, Triple-play Backhaul and IPTV, Business Ethernet, Enterprise Networks, Metro Regional Core Networking and Wholesale.
The demand for data oriented services has been showing tremendous growth generated from all segments of the communication market. Residential subscribers wants video, voice and Internet from both fixed and mobile devices. Recently Google had changed their search engine algorithms based on the analysis that for the first time in United States, searches from mobile devise surpassed that from fixed devices. The trend is towards use of mobile devices. Subscribers use broadband services for accessing applications such as video streaming, interactive gaming and high-speed Internet access. These applications require huge amounts of bandwidth. On the other hand, business customers such as finance institutions are demanding high bandwidth, very low latency seamless and always-ON services. Industry and public sector customers need both resilient networks for their critical applications and high bandwidth to transport video data. Packet-Optical Transport allows service providers to fully leverage their existing SDH/SONET network infrastructure and operations as they migrate their networks from circuit-optimized to packet-optimized transport. Emerging products and standards can enable this network transformation and maintain profitable services.
The transport market is rapidly moving toward packet-based services ever since the Ethernet and IP applications started dominating the application markets. Service providers started responding with packet optimized networks that provide carrier class transport capabilities and strong OAM (Operations, Administration, and Maintenance), while leveraging their installed SDH/SONET infrastructure. This results to the development of new transport products and networks using Packet-Optical Transport. Packet Optical Transport is in the early stages of market penetration.
Cable Color’s fiber optic network covers the northern region of Honduras, with major hubs in the industrial city of San Pedro Sula in Honduras and also spans to Puerto Barrios, in Guatemala to interconnect with provider’s operations in Guatemala. The new infrastructure benefits from a low power design and offers compact nodes at all locations, saving both energy and space. It now enables Cable Color to carry digital TV signals and data across a highly sophisticated packet optical infrastructure.
Cable Color began operations in the city of Tegucigalpa and with rapid growth and acceptance by its customers, has expanded operations to several cities of the country including: Valle de Angeles, Santa Lucia, Comayagua, Siguatepeque, Choloma, Omoa, Puerto Cortes, Villanueva, San Pedro Sula, Santa Rosa de Copan and La Ceiba. The company continues to expand with expanded coverage and national growth. Cable Color was the first company to transmit cable television through a fiber optic network in Honduras, the first private fiber optic cables running back to Puerto Cortes Tegucigalpa and now continues to work to provide customers with innovative services for both communication and entertainment, including cable TV, internet, telephony and data transport with the highest levels of quality.
