Anniston City Council approves the proposal for franchise agreement with M2 Connections to install fiber optic network and deliver high-speed Internet services to the businesses in the city. M2 Communications will deploy around 10 kilometers of fiber optic cables in the city to connect to the subscribers.
M2 Connections is an Anniston based local company offering broadband services to business customers. M2 Communications is a technology division of JKM Consulting. JKM Consulting manages the deployment of advanced broadband networks since 1998 in the city. JKM Consulting performs network building and project management services to fiber service providers throughout the southern United States.
Anniston is a city in Calhoun County in the state of Alabama. The population of the city is around 23,000. The city is the county seat of Calhoun County and one of two urban centers/principal cities of and included in the Anniston-Oxford Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the agreement approved by Anniston City Council, M2 Connections can start installation of fiber optic lines. The company will use the new lines to expand the number of businesses it serves in the city. Deployment of fiber optic network will be done this year as per the officials from M2 Communications.
M2 currently serves the counties of Calhoun, Talladega, Clay and Randolph. M2 already has 36 miles of fiber optic lines in Anniston and provides service to nearly 100 locations in the city, including Regional Medical Center and the city school system. M2 has no plans to offer its fiber optic service to residential customers. M2 Communications can offer up to 10 Gigabits per second of download speed. Heavy data users such as medical facilities and manufacturers need the larger bandwidths.
