Fujikura owned AFL acquires Australian Fiberoptic Communications (AFC), a company specialized in offering fiber optic and copper cabling products in Australian market. AFC is a manufacturer, designer and integrator of fiber optic and copper communication solutions with operations in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. With this acquisition, AFL expands its reach to the markets where AFC used to supply fiber optic products.
The America Fujikura Ltd (AFL) is a 100% owned company of Japan based Fujikura. AFL was formed as a joint venture by the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), and Fujikura Ltd. of Japan in 1984. Initial aim was to manufacture Optical Ground wire (OPGW) at the Duncan, SC facility. In 2005, Fujikura assumed 100% ownership of AFL and moved AFL’s headquarters to Duncan, SC. Fujikura is a world leader in Fiber optic fusion splicer, optical fibers and other fiber optic components, opto-electronics, metallic cables and systems, automobile control and automation products, thermal technology products etc.
Japan based Fujikura has been in business for 130 years and is one of the oldest manufacturers of cables and wires in Japan. Telecommunications business has been a core business with in Fujikura. AFC will join the AFL family, thus expanding Fujikura’s reach to Australia and New Zealand.
AFL has served the Australian market for over 20 years, primarily in the power utility market. AFL acquired Australia based Optimal Cable Services in 2013. Acquistion of AFC will provide AFL to offer differentiating and innovative solutions to its customers in the South Pacific. By adding AFC to the group, AFL’s expanded product offering now includes fiber optic cable, fiber management systems, fiber assemblies and fiber enclosures as well as splicers, test equipment and a complete set of communication network products.
AFC has existing facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Auckland and Hong Kong. AFL will continue the operation in all these locations.
