Portugal telecommunication service provider DS Telecom plans to expand fiber optic networks by utilizing the EU funds for which it will participate in the tender. European Union tenders for financing the fiber optic networks will be opened in May 2015.
The operator can extend the coverage of its fiber optic network with the help of EU funds made available through the Portugal 2020 program. There are several areas of Portugal that do not have the speed and bandwidth required by the Digital Agenda for 2020. Around two million Portuguese should have their internet access speed increased, which will require an investment of around EUR 250 million.
