What is the chemical formula of the additive that used in sheathing compounds?

In BSNL specifications, Nylon-12 jacketing was specified in order to attain the termite resistant properties. A few years ago, there was a shortage of nylon-12 worldwide and BSNL decided to change the specification. I am not sure, how do the BSNL cables comply with the termite-resistant characteristics. I think, there are termite-resistant additives that can be added to the sheathing compound. What is that chemical?

Hi,

Bifenthrin is the chemical that can keep the termites away from your costly fiber optic cables.  Bifenthrin has 23 Carbon atoms, 22 Hydrogen atoms, 1 Chlorine atom, 3 Fluorine atoms, and 2 Oxygen atoms -C23H22ClF3O2. You may refer to the below link for its chemical structure.

Yes, in India also we used Nylon-12 outer jacket for termite protection. Shortage of Nylon-12 forced the manufacturers of optical fiber cables to approach BSNL and request for spec change. Nylon-12 prices are also high. So, I am looking for a chemical additive that can be added to the outer polyethylene.

I think, there are no experts in this forum to answer your queries. Better try some other sites. Your question is related to the raw materials, not exactly something related to fiber optics.

Customers in Australia and New Zealand also use fiber optic cable with termite-resistant sheath. They specify Nylon jacketing, which is effective to protect the cables from termite attacks.

Not exactly, I just referred a case where termite-resistant cables are specified. BSNL is the one I know.I like to know the chemical formula of the additive used in sheathing compounds.
