What are the benefits of moving towards micro duct solutions?

Everyone says micro ducts are good. Are there any study conducted on the benefits of micro duct solutions in fiber optic cables? I can understand that small diameter is good for saving the space, but will it not demand severe deployment stress on the cable and fibers? Eventually over a period of time, these fibers may show deterioration and loss increase.

I will not say large diameter, but enough diameter to ensure safe installation practices of optical fibers is a pre-requisite for the ducts, isn't it?

Micro duct installation eliminates the manual pulling work. You need to mobilize a substantial workforce to do the pulling job. A jetting machine can install around 2 kilometers of micro duct cable in less than 30 minutes.

Reduced duct space: As the name micro indicates, the duct is very small compared to the conventional ducts

These days, fibers capable to withstand severe bend conditions throughout their lifespan are easily available from almost all major suppliers. So, you don't need to worry about the deterioration of attenuation over a period of time.

Installation of small ducts reduces work, cost, and deployment time.

Micro duct technology allows the deployment of cables at a later time. This means, you just install the duct network now, and later when you need, you can install the cable.

One of the major advantages of micro duct solution is the reduction in the initial CAPEX. In a conventional duct solution, you need to install the cables along with the ducts or at least before your ducts are joined together. Micro ducts allow you to install your cables at a later point in time. You first install only micro ducts and then later you install the cables as and when required.

Micro ducts are small compared to conventional ducts. So they must be cheaper and easy to handle. Micro duct sizes are 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 20mm while that of conventional duct are 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm. etc.

Cables can be installed by using the air blowing technique. Air blowing can go up to 2000 meters depending on the cable, blowing machine, and duct characteristics. Conventional duct installation needs manual pulling.

Micro duct cable installation is faster. So, your project time is reduced drastically. Think about it, when you make a plan for your network. You can save a lot of money.
