What are the benefits of moving towards micro duct solutions?

Everyone says micro ducts are good. Are there any study conducted on the benefits of micro duct solutions in fiber optic cables? I can understand that small diameter is good for saving the space, but will it not demand severe deployment stress on the cable and fibers? Eventually over a period of time, these fibers may show deterioration and loss increase.

I will not say large diameter, but enough diameter to ensure safe installation practices of optical fibers is a pre-requisite for the ducts, isn't it?
