Is it necessary to check the attenuation of installed fiber optic cable?

Checking attenuation takes lot of time and causes delay of projects. These days, sophisticated installation methods are used to deploy fiber optic cables in the field. Hence, chances are very rare or negligible that the attenuation of an installed cable will change drastically.

Is it really necessary to check the attenuation of an installed fiber optic cable? How important it is to test attenuation before installation? If testing is skipped before and after installation what are the disadvantages?

It is a “MUST”. You must check attenuation before installation to demarcate responsibilities. If you are installing your network by yourself for you, then, probably fine, you can skip. In this case, if something goes wrong, you are responsible. You can change the faulty cable.
