How many fiber optic cable manufacturing companies are there in India?

Quote from Lazarus Macin on May 5, 2022, 11:03 AM

Indian fiber optic market is growing, especially after the government’s announcement for nation wide fiber optic network projects, which is known as NOFN. Requirement for fiber optic cable has increased many multiple times suddenly. Sometimes it seems that domestic cable manufacturer’s current capacity may not be enough to meet the market demand. Hope, new cable companies will emerge to deliver to the demand.

As far as I know, there are more than 15 fiber optic cable manufacturers in India. Let me try to list them. It is not in any order, but as it comes in my mind. Sterlite Technologies, Birla Ericsson, Vindhya Telelinks, Aksh Optifibre, Finolex Cables Ltd, UM Cables, Apar Industries, HFCL, Paramount Communications, Tamilnadu Telecommunications Ltd, Surana Telecom, Sudarshan Telecom, RPG Cables, Teracom, Himalaya Communications, ZTT

I know these substantially big players, but not sure about small ones as I have almost lost touch with Indian market. I am relocated to Asia-Pacific region now. My friend had indicated about new companies coming up in India, probably five more players. As you told, India has potential to grow and there is always scope for new comers in the manufacturing of optical fiber cables in India.

Chen, I think you missed HCL (Hindustan Cables Ltd) and Optel. These two are the first to start fiber optic cable production in India. HCL used to supply Ribbon type cables while Optel was the first to start loose tube cable designs in India. Indian fiber optic cable history is incomplete without Optel and HCL.

HCL and Optel are not active now. They already stopped their operation and no more available for cable production. In that view, I think Chen is correct.

Heard from friends that some five more new fiber-optic cable companies are coming in India. At least two of them are expansions of existing cable makers such as HFCL and Aksh. It is an unconfirmed news that ZTT is also planning to start optical fiber cable for domestic use. Currently , hey have plant for OPGW cables in the southern part of India.

HFCL has already a plant in Goa. Aksh has a plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan for fiber optic cables. I need to get the confirmed news on the new-comers in the market. Seems Indian fiber optic cable market is growing and will have more suppliers in the near future. Since Corning has established their fiber drawing factory in Pune, there will not be much problem for fiber supply to meet the demands from these cable makers. Sterlite is already a strong fiber supplier to the domestic cable makers.

Good luck to my Indian friends!
