Telecommunication network solution provider, ADTRAN Inc, has been selected by UK’s new fiber optic network operator, Zzoomm as the technology partner. ADTRAN solution would speed up Zzoomm’s 10G FTTH building process in towns and suburbs of the United Kingdom.

The partnership will Speed up the process of a full fiber network deployment in the UK. Zzoomm targets to cover 1 million properties in the underserved towns and suburbs of the country with fiber optic cables that are capable of delivering 10Gbps transmission speeds.

The founder of Gigaclear Mr. Matthew Hare founded the Zzoomm after he sold the former company to Chief Executive, in December 2018, to bring full fiber to homes and businesses across the UK. Matthew, who is a prominent figure of the UK fiber optic infrastructure industry founded rural full fiber operator Gigaclear plc in 2010.

Zzoomm recently announced the official launch of its full fiber network and plans to begin construction this summer with the goal to connect one million of these previously underserved properties over the next five years. This 10Gbps service-capable network will afford these communities access to the most advanced residential and business applications available now and into the foreseeable future.

The operator is specifically targeting its services to suburbs of major cities, including London, as well as towns and smaller cities across the U.K. These communities are currently underserved by existing operators using copper-based infrastructure. Zzoomm will leverage the ADTRAN 10G fiber access platform with XGS-PON to support a highly-economical, symmetric 10Gbps service delivery solution at competitive broadband price-points.

It is estimated that there are around 30 million homes and businesses in the U.K., but only two million have access to fiber optic networks and high-speed broadband services.

Zzoomm aims to connect its subscribers with the services needed to work, learn and play when and where they want. To accomplish that, Zzoomm has been looking for a technology partner that is keen to understand its business.

Zzoomm management found in ADTRAN a valued partner who can also provide the expertise to help Zzoomm build a strong 10G network foundation that will support the broadband requirements of the UK.

ADTRAN enables operators across Europe, like Zzoomm, to make significant progress in connecting homes and businesses to advanced services that enhance subscriber experience and quality of service. ADTRAN’s collaboration with Zzoomm to build a 10Gbps service-capable network is another proof-point that the market is choosing 10G PON technology over the previous FTTP solutions deployed over the past decades.

Zzoomm will design, build and operate a new full fiber network, where the fiber runs all the way into the property. Zzoomm is building out this FTTP (fiber to the premises) network in towns and suburban areas across the UK where there is no existing access to a full fiber network.

Zzoomm is headquartered in Oxford and is establishing regional offices to drive infrastructure planning and build at a local level in its target market of U.K. towns and suburban areas.
