Vodafone Plans for Basque FTTH Network Expansion

Vodafone Espana had revealed strategic business plans to be implemented in Basque County, Spain to expand its fiber optic network to deliver high-speed FTTH broadband services to 300,000 households. The network expansion project will be implemented in the Basque Country in a time frame of one year. Basque county is an autonomous community of northern Spain. It includes the Basque provinces of Álava, Biscay, and Gipuzkoa, also called Historical Territories.

Vodafone would continue its collaboration with Orange Spain for their fiber optic deployments. The operator will invest more than 36 million US dollars from its own fund. The dep[loyment will continue in cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria and Irun over the next three years. Vodafone has a good customer base in Basque County that includes 600,000 mobile subscribers and around 50,000 fixed telephone/broadband subscribers.
