The board of directors of one of the leading fiber optic cable manufacturers in India, Aksh Optifibre have decided to invest around 15 million US dollars for the expansion of optical fiber cable and FRP manufacturing facilities. Aksh optifibre has optical fiber, cable and cable reinforcement material manufacturing facilities in India apart from offering network solutions. The board of directors meeting held on 30th May had taken decision to invest to reap from the growing demand for fiber optic products both in India and neighboring markets.

Established around 29 years before (1986), manufacturing control cables at first, Aksh diversified in to optical fiber cable manufacturing in 1994. Aksh was the third or fourth company in private sector in 1994 to start manufacturing of optical fiber cables in India, after Sterlite, Birla Ericsson and Bhilai Wires (now not in operation). Under the leadership of Dr. Kailash Choudhary, who is a medical doctor and visionary entrepreneur, Aksh could expand its wings throughout India and abroad. His idea of backward integration proved to be a successful strategy, when Aksh established optical fiber manufacturing facility in its cable manufacturing compound, with drawing towers supplied by Nextrom in 1996.

Aksh started manufacturing of reinforcement cable materials such as Fiber reinforced plastic rods in 2000. In 2007, Aksh has has entered into agreement with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) for providing Voice over Internet Protocol(VOIP) service on the Broadband Network of MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai. Aksh Optifibre Ltd has signed an agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), for providing IPTV services in twenty cities in India on the broadband network of BSNL

With leading Indian market share AKSH boasts of strong customer base comprising government owned companies in India like BSNL, VSNL, MTNL, Railways, Defence etc. Aksh exports to a host of diversified destinations in USA, South America, Europe, CIS, Africa, and Middle East & Asia. Aksh is one of the few companies that has been exporting their products out of India. Aksh has strong business interests in Middle East Asian countries especially in the United Arab Emirates, which is a strategic location for business and logistics. As many cable manufacturing companies are coming up both in Middle East Asia and African countries, establishing a manufacturing base in Middle east’s strategic locations to offer quicker delivery will benefit Indian telecom business houses.

The meeting of board of directors has decided to appoint Mrs. Devika Raveendran as an independent woman director. The board accepted the resignation of Mr. Chetan Choudhary from the post of Managing director and director board membership. The meeting appointed Dr. Kailash Choudhary, who was the inspiration behind Aksh Optifibre, as the Chairman and Managing Director of Aksh Optifibre, apart from approving a capital investment of more than 15 million US dollars to expand its manufacturing facilities in optical fiber cables and fiber reinforced plastic rods.
