Leading Aramid yarn manufacturer Teijin Limited had announced the expansion of its manufacturing capacity of Technora® para-aramid fiber by 10%. The capacity increase will be done at Teijin’s Matsuyama Factory in Japan. Construction of the facility begins this June at a cost of 1.5 billion Japanese Yen and the operation is slated to begin from October 2017.
Aramid yarns are used in fiber optic cables to provide tensile strength. Aramid fibers have tough tenacity, light weight and high young’s modulus and for these reasons, it has found its application in All-dielectric fiber optic cables, especially All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) cables. ADSS cables need high tensile strength to withstand wind and ice loading conditions and lower mass in order to make aerial installation easier.
Demand for fiber optic cables in the global market is on the raise and the year 2016 will witness one of the highest demands for fiber optic cables in comparison to the previous years. China consumes almost fifty percent of the total fiber optic cables consumed worldwide. Growth in the fiber optic cable production has been demanding supply of more aramid yarns by cable manufacturers worldwide. Responding to the increasing global demand for aramid products, Teijin had decided to expand its production capacity.
