Legnano to Receive Fiber Optic Broadband

Telecom Italia is reaching to the town of Legnano in Italy with fiber optic networks to provide high speed broadband services to its subscribers. The operator has announced the details of a plan to install a new fibre-optic network. The work will involve rolling out 31 km of fiber optic cables to connect 65 street cabinets.

Telecom Italia targets to reach to 10,000 houses in the town with fiber optic broadband services, which will see around 90 percent of the population covered with high speed networks by the end of September this year. Telecom Italia also revealed that it had brought 4G coverage to around 98 percent of the city’s population by installing four new base stations.

Legnago is a town and commune in the Province of Verona, Veneto, northern Italy, with population of around 25,439. The town is located on the Adige river, about 43 kilometers from Verona. Its fertile land produces crops of rice, other cereals, sugar, and tobacco.

Fiber to the Cabinet technology is usually employed in Italy. Fiber to the Cabinet technology brings optical fibers a few hundred meters near to the subscriber before they gets terminated in street cabinets. Fiber to the home technology is the last mile technology that provides an all fiber connection up to the end user’s house.

It was in May this year that Telecom Italia has begun offering a high-speed fibre-optic broadband service in the town of Viareggio on the Tuscan coast. The service was also based on Fiber to the Cabinet technology

Telecom Italia customers will be able to access the internet at speeds of at least 50 Mbps, increasing to up to 100 Mbps in the future. The operator’s fibre optic services are currently available at the promotional rates of 29 euros per month for consumers and 35 euros for businesses for the first 6 and 12 months respectively.
