Netherlands based Eurofiber says they have reached an agreement with Belgium based Syntigo for the acquisition of B-Telecom for an amount of 33 million euro. Eurofiber is interested to taker over the fiber optic business of Syntigo to increase their fiber footprint in Belgium. The proposed acquisition includes all Syntigo’s fiber optic activities. The acquisition process is expected to finish at the end of July 2015.
All the employees of B-Telecom will also be transferred to Eurofiber as per the agreement with Syntigo. The acquisition enables Eurofiber to expand its existing fiber optic network capacity in Belgium by 7,500 km. Acquisition of fiber optic networks gives Eurofibe a nationwide network in Belgium to offer its services in Belgium that matches with the one it delivers in the Netherlands. Customers and partners will benefit from this increased network coverage, and will continue to be able to use Eurofiber’s open access network which allows them the freedom to choose their own IT and telecom service providers.
Eurofiber is a specialized provider of dark fiber connections, Ethernet services and optical transmission services over DWDM. Eurofiber’s finely meshed fibre optic network extends throughout the Netherlands and beyond. More than 25% of the Internet traffic and more than 50% of Mobile traffic in the Netherlands are transported over Eurofiber’s network, the company claims.
With over 18,000 kilometres of cable, Eurofiber network covers the Netherlands and stretches into Belgium and Germany. Company’s meshed infrastructure has already connected over 9,500 locations and 550 business parks. Eurofiber Group offer open network with infrastructure and ICT services being offered separately, for both the fiber optic network and the datacenters.
Eurofiber Belgium officials said that they have aimed since inception to grow in Belgium organically as well as through mergers and acquisitions. This transaction represents an important step in company’s path to becoming market leader in dark fiber services in Belgium and to secure a top three position in fiber based transmission services.
