The city has reached pre-registration goals in seven of its 21 “fiberhoods.” The company said that it has begun construction in three areas and service is available today in Hunter’s Ridge-Indian Trails fiberhood. Later this year, C Spire plans to turn up service in the remaining six fiberhoods.

The debut of the 1 Gbps service will also provide benefits to the local school district. Clinton will be able to use the fiber-based connections as a platform to drive its one-to-one technology initiative in all of its schools.

Kim Griffin, technology director for the Clinton Public School District, said in a release that the one-to-one technology will allow students and teachers to potentially have the same robust connection at home and school for homework and collaborative learning and other opportunities for teaching, learning, performing original research and working with other schools and organizations.

Earlier this year, Clinton joined Quitman, Ridgeland, and Starkville as Mississippi cities that have met the qualifications for its 1 Gbps service.
