Bixby based telecommunication service provider BTC Broadband has extended its broadband services to Glenpool, Mounds, Kiefer, Kellyville, Morris, Twin Hills schools (Okmulgee) and Collinsville (Oklahoma, USA). More than half a dozen areas in the city will be served with the high-speed broadband services by the provider, said the President of BTC Broadband, Mr. Scott Floyd. He added that the work in those areas was completed last year and coverage to Collinsville schools is scheduled to be completed by 1st July.
In collaboration with Ochelata-based Totah Communications, BTC Broadband is undertaking the construction of a new network route called the Bartlesville-to-Tulsa fiber route. This fiber network will extend from Collinsville to the Cherokee Industrial Park and into downtown Tulsa.
BTC Broadband (formerly Bixby Telephone Company) has been locally owned and operated for over 100 years. In 1993, Bixby Telephone became an Internet Service Provider, able to offer customers high-speed Internet service, in addition to local and long-distance telephone service. Behind the scenes, we were busy installing a new Fiber Optic system that relocated traditional above-ground telephone lines safely underground.
Bixby Telephone officially evolved from a traditional telephone company to a rightful broadband company, able to transmit high-speed data, voice, and video, simultaneously. In 2006 the decision was made to rename Bixby Telephone to BTC Broadband, solidifying our place in the industry as a full-service telecommunications provider.
Bixby is a city in Tulsa and Wagoner counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma and is a suburb of Tulsa. The population is more than 21,00. Bixby became the 19th largest city in Oklahoma and is nicknamed “The Garden Spot of Oklahoma” for its rich agrarian heritage. Bixby has one of the fastest-growing communities in Oklahoma with a per capita income of $36,257, which is the highest in the Tulsa Metropolitan area and is more than 150 percent higher than the state average.
BTC Broadband officials said that the main thing with the broadband businesses is the reduced cost and better services. BTC realizes that the major reason why customers look for BTC’s broadband is the high-quality service at a competitive rate. In December 2014, BTC became the first company in Oklahoma to offer broadband internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second to residents in its service area. Speeds of 1 gigabit per second, also referred to as “The Big Gig,” are about 100 times faster than the average, fixed high-speed Internet connection.
Studies have shown that around 1.1 percent of the residents/businesses have access to 1 gigabit broadband in Oklahoma. There is a huge potential for business in the area. BTC Broadband’s initiatives will help to reduce the digital gap existing in the region. Subscribers demanding for higher bandwidth services have been increasing exponentially and as more smart devices have been added to homes, the presence of gigabit services is becoming inevitable. BTC’s expansion includes service exclusive to businesses and schools and not to existing residences.
BTC Broadband believes that for the most part, it does not make economic sense for them to overbuild old, existing buildings. Most of their residential subscribers are in the Bixby and surrounding or edge-out areas. That area includes fiber-to-the-home neighborhoods that encompass more than 50 residential developments and more than 5,000 homes.
