Mechanical Scientist Job in Shenzhen, China

Corning China is looking for a mechanical scientist for its Shenzhen facility in China

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Understand technical requirements and manage testing plan internally to gain fundamental knowledge to address technical challenges at the customer in the new product evaluation and adoption stage

• Support technical needs in the field to ensure Corning Gorilla Glass is properly strengthened in terms of metrology measurement

• Work with product development, manufacturing, and commercial to understand and translate needs into reliability requirements

• Perform general experimental laboratory work to confirm stress profile attributes

• Assist strengthened cover glass stress profile metrology development and facilitate new metrology deployment to the field

Key Qualifications Education and Experience:

3 – 10 years of work experience after completion of M.S. or Ph.D. — preferably in Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering

Travel Requirements: up to 25%, mainly in the Asia region

Required Skills

• Ability to understand and operate advanced metrology devices •

Deep understanding of optics, polarization, and waveguide theory

• Strong background in image and signal processing

• Familiarity with reliability engineering, statistical analyses, and materials damage mechanisms • Ability to independently analyze test results and communicate effectively Desired Skills

• Knowledge of cover glass ion-exchange process

• Experience with prism-coupled and scattered-light optical measurement systems

• Background or past experience in glass and ceramics

• Understanding of touch technologies and related cover glass fabrication processes

• Ability to define and deconstruct the problem, develop knowledge/methods/testing, interpret results, report and present to customers including recommendations and next steps

• Excellent written and oral presentation skills in English and Chinese Soft Skills

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

• Excellent collaborator and teammate

• Comfortable with risk and rapid changes in the program

• Capable of working on multidisciplinary projects
