Excellent opportunity for an experienced fibre network planner to join a telecoms ISP who are experiencing rapid growth. The fibre network planner will lead up and take responsibility for the design of network infrastructure for customers across the Berkshire area as well as other projects.
The role
The Fibre Network Planner role will involve working from the office based in Abingdon, spending time on sites in Berkshire and other areas and also working from home on occasion.
As the Lead Fibre Network Planner, you will be responsible for assisting and the planning and design of complex fibre network infrastructure for rural areas based around the UK. Using a GIS systems you will plan where fibre will be laid in the ground taking into account and wayleave issues or obstructions that could prevent the smooth running of the installs.
The Lead Fibre Network Planner will provide advice and guidance to commercial and project teams on the characteristics and specifications of optical fibre and equipment used to meet project requirements
You will be responsible for ensuring accuracy of asset information (planned fibre networks and plant protection information). You will ensure quality of captured as-built information.
Duties
External fibre network design. (Chamber & duct construction design – Dark/Open Fibre
Cabling and splicing design).
Production of construction & cabling work packages using MS Office, AutoCAD & Microstation.
Bill of materials / quantities compilation.
Wayleave Pack production.
Desktop Feasibility studies for account managers bidding proposals.
The Candidate
The most suitable candidates for this will have previously worked in a fibre network planning position for the likes of BT, Virgin Media, City Fibre, Cable & Wireless, KCOM, Thus or Colt for example.
Candidates will need a strong knowledge of NRSWA and CDM and ideally experience working with GIS software.
Knowledge
Fibre Network architecture – ideally FTTH
Full understanding of fibre allocations
Detailed understanding of all aspects of civils route planning using different methodologies
Ability to identify engineering risks and associated solutions
Ability to plan, fit for construction, external and internal networks
Knowledge of GIS software (ideally CadCorp and GE Smallworld)
Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
Knowledge and understanding of NRSWA
Knowledge and understanding of CDM
Experience working in telecommunications in an infrastructure planning capacity
