Manufacturing Shift Technician Job at Corning facility in Wilmington, North Carolina
Purpose of the Position: Provides first, second, and third level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues in the department. Works hands-on with manufacturing equipment and activities. Identifies and supports process improvements. Uses judgment, experience, and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Provide first, second, and third level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues
- Manage multiple troubleshooting issues utilizing sound technical principles to drive resolution. Prioritizing issues against plant and department priorities
- Receive training from engineering in technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) areas, on new processes/equipment and/or on procedural changes
- Develop/maintain a system to keep production teams current on the process, equipment, and procedures
- Support Preventive Maintenance efforts on equipment
- Production support for any throughput or safety items that may be hindering output helping the department achieve safety, lean, and production goals
- Receive training in new processes/equipment and/or procedure changes from engineering
- Champion safety performance; Maintain and enforce all housekeeping and safety regulations
- Provide technical training for associates
- Ensure cooperation with Engineering in the implementation and evaluation of development experiments, as well as troubleshooting efforts
- Recommend improvements to process and/or equipment
- Maintain the systems and actions necessary to ensure compliance with department certification programs, quality System Audit Program, and ISO 14000 registration
- Participate in a trained spill team for the Glassmaking areas; Participate in monthly spill drills Projects involved with Process and Equipment changes, Safety improvement, Lean manufacturing, Workforce development
Education & Experience:
- Two-year electrical/mechanical technical degree preferred (Will consider experienced candidates with demonstrated skills).
- No Degree – 10+ years of work experience.
- 2-year degree – 5+ years of work experience.
- 4-year degree – 3+ years of experience.

- Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
- Good process and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Mechanically and Electrically inclined (aptitude for both)

- Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)
- Ability to train effectively
- PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Passdown)
- Willing to act as a motivator and role model for the shift
- Controlled response in emergency situations
Desired Skills:
- Capable of using Diagnostic equipment
- Basic understanding of PLC
- PC – Data Analysis (PI, etc.)
- Electrical test equipment
Soft Skills:
- Works well in a team environment, is a “self-starter” and “results oriented”.
- Acts and makes decisions in the best interest of the team.
- Complies with all policies and procedures of the plant.
- Works well with other disciplines (IT, mechanical, and process engineering) to fully understand manufacturing system functionality and design requirements.
Travel Requirements: (National/International; <5%
Hours of work: 12hr rotating shifts.
