Glo (Globacom Limited) is set to deploy first Artificial Intelligence (AI) related tools to modernize the telecommunication applications in Nigeria. The next generation of platforms will reform the telecommunication sector in the country.
Artificial Intelligence related tools will help the telecommunication operator to optimize their Planning, operations, and maintenance to achieve maximum output. Telecommunication industry is one of the ripen market sector for Artificial intelligence solutions. Automation through artificial intelligence will help telcos to reduce costs and boost efficiencies.
Telecommunication service providers can make use of Artificial intelligence in many ways that include network operations, monitoring, and management, predictive maintenance, customer service and marketing, cyber-security, fraud mitigation, virtual digital assistants, customer relation management, user experience management etc.
It is forecasted that there would be more than 20 billion connected devices worldwide by 2020, which would grow further to make the management of the communication system more complex. Artificial intelligence applications in the telecommunications industry use advanced algorithms to look for patterns within the data, enabling telecoms to both detect and predict network anomalies, and allowing operators to proactively fix problems before customers are negatively impacted.
Globacom made the disclosure to utilize Artificial Intelligence in Lagos, Nigeria and stated that Artificial intelligence would completely change its customer experience owing to its highly interactive and engaging nature.
Officials in Glo informed that the Artificial Intelligence platform would engage customers directly and assist them to get information on pressing issues. It will also support customers to choose the most convenient data and talk plan in both the prepaid and postpaid categories, resolve general and specific issues such as balance inquiry/Value Added Service (VAS) and respond to customer inquiries 24/7 without any human interface.
The Glo Artificial Intelligence platform, which would be the first of its kind in the country’s telecoms sector, will enable conversation in English and Pidgin through voice & text.
Described by the company as next-generation customer experience, the platform will go live in a couple of weeks.
In order to support the increasing demand for bandwidth-hungry applications in Nigeria, the Government and telcos had taken measures to expand fiber optic networks throughout the country.
Globacom was founded in August 2003 by Mike Adenuga. As of June 2018, Glo has employed more than 3,500 people worldwide.
