Nepal based internet service provider, Vianet Communications Selects Ciena’s Packet and Optical Platforms to Improve intracity and international Connectivity. With Ciena solutions, the provider can increase transmission capacity over its existing optical networks.
There is a surge in demand for high-speed, high-bandwidth services from the land-locked Himalayan nation. In order to meet this unpredictable traffic patterns and a surge in bandwidth demand generated from new residential and enterprise customers, Vianet Communications chose Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and 5160 Service Aggregation Switch. By deploying Ciena solutions, Vianet can achieve the levels of capacity, flexibility, resiliency, and openness required to create a network that can quickly adapt to changing user demands, states Ciena press release.
Vianet has been agressively deploying optical fibers to the home to deliver high-speed broadband services to its subscribers. Currently, the provider has more than 70,000 customers. The provider has posted continuous growth in its business, thanks to the ever growing bandwidth hungry businesses in Nepal.
Ciena solutions will help Vianet to improve intracity connectivity in the capital Kathmandu and provide international connectivity between Nepal and other countries. Bordered by India and neighbored by China, Nepal has been a strategic ally for the Indian administration until recently the politicians in Nepal started slanting towards the Chinese administration. Nepal’s international communication connectivity comes through India.
Ciena’s network management software will enable a greater level of control over Vianet’s network. The Network Management solution provides end-to-end visibility of its services across all transport, switching and packet elements on the desktop. Such software solutions will also assist operators to deploy new services and optimize the use of current network and bandwidth assets.
Vianet is also deploying Ciena’s 5160 Service Aggregation Switch to efficiently deliver and aggregate large quantities of packet data while meeting stringent service level agreements.
Vianet has twenty years of experience in the field and has been engaged in delivering affordable broadband internet services in Greater Kathmandu. A few years ago, Vianet started deploying fiber optic cables to provide internet. Vianet has been successful in its FTTH internet business model.
