Tejas Networks Plans 5G Laboratory in Kerala

Indian telecommunication equipment supplier, Tejas Networks plans to establish a 5G lab in the Southern State of Kerala. Recently, the manufacturer is setting up a Center of Excellence (CoE) for next-generation telecom technologies in Kerala. The CoE is being set up in partnership with the state government in the new Integrated Startup Complex in Kochi.

Kochi (Cochin) is the financial capital of Kerala, a Southern state known for its beautiful landscapes. Kerala is the only State in India that has a democratically elected government lead by leftist parties with a Communist leader as Chief Minister. The State has the unique distinction of having the highest percentage of literary rate in the country. The State’s human development indices are comparable with that of the most advanced nations.

Apart from setting up a Centre of Excellence, Tejas Networks also proposed to set up an advanced networking testbed for cutting-edge technologies such as terabit-scale optical communications, gigabit-scale broadband access, 5G and software-defined networking.

The new center will focus on training, skills development and mentoring of college students, young entrepreneurs and high-potential electronics startups in the state. The State has a pool of highly educated human resource that is attracted to job opportunities arising across the sea. The new set up will create job opportunities in the State.

A press release from the equipment supplier revealed that senior technologists from the company will work closely with the faculty of leading engineering institutions in the state to develop a futuristic, industry-oriented telecommunication training and certification program.

In October 2018, Tejas announced that it has received a purchase order worth around US$1.6million (Indian Rs. 111 Crores) for Indian Navy’s country wide next-generation digital communications network from Sterlite Technologies. As a part of this order, Tejas Networks has started supplying its terabit capacity DWDM systems and high-performance Layer-3 Multi Gigabit Ethernet switches, for this pan-India network.
