Dawiyat Signs MoU with Zain for Fiber Service

Saudi Arabia’s newly formed fiber-optic broadband service provider Dawiyat has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zain to deliver broadband services to the homes. The MoU was signed by CEO of Dawiyat Dr. Ahmed Sindi and Mr. Peter Kaliaropoulos, CEO of Zain Saudi Arabia, in the presence of CEO of SEC, Eng. Ziyad Al-Shiha.

Dawiyat is one of the three companies in Saudi Arabia responsible for the deployment of fiber to the home broadband services. Dawiyat is a subsidiary of Saudi Electric Company (SEC). The MoU comes out as a framework of the Kingdom’s initiatives to accelerate the deployment of broadband services to enhance its international position in this field and provide high-quality Internet services for citizens and residents.

After the signing ceremony, Dr. Sindi said that the MoU is one of the most important steps to enhance means of strategic cooperation and partnership with Zain and to maximize the use of the strong fiber-optic network infrastructure of Dawiyat, which extends more than 55,000 kilometers, covering most regions of the Kingdom.

The aim is to provide advanced services in the field of information and communication technology and provide the housing sector with the broadband services, television broadcasting and possibility of providing packages of smart home services and advanced digital services, the matter which will contribute to accelerating digital transformation process in the Kingdom and enhance its digital readiness globally. Saudi Government had started measures to implement wise governance through transformation initiatives to achieve Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Deployment of fiber-optic broadband services to deliver speed and quality of the internet is a necessary step towards that goal.

The CEO of Dawiyat added that the MoU is compatible with the global trend of cooperation between electricity and telecommunication sectors in order to benefit from the government’s huge investment in the electricity infrastructure including the fiber-optic network, the matter which in turn contributes to reducing costs and time of deploying the broadband services in the Kingdom. It is also an important step to activate Dawiyat’s plans and strategies of cooperation with its strategic partners who have the required potentials and experiences to benefit from its fiber-optic network, he said. He pointed out that his company is proud of its partnership with Zain KSA and looking forward to further cooperation and integration in an endeavor to maximize revenues of the SEC, support its efforts in the field of national development and diversify sources of income and investments.

The CEO of Zain said that the MoU will focus on cooperation in the field of broadband services including advanced services to provide the housing sector with optic fiber-based digital Internet services.

The MoU is seen as a success of the cooperation strategy with Dawiyat and SEC and will give Zain the opportunity to provide distinguished services to citizens and residents in the field of the digital Internet via Dawiyat’s fiber-optic network.
