The Role:
We have a 6 – 9 month contract opportunity for Fiber characterization engineer to work in UK & Europe with office based in London. Engineer will need to have excellent understanding of fiber/types/technologies/standards/splice & connector losses/reflectance/odfs/carrier hotels/data centres, able to perform OTDR/ILM/ORL CD/PMD testing using primarily Exfo equipment. You will be analyzing the results, creating bi directional & events tables. Working in teams of 2 it is important that you can communicate well, work to tough timelines, remain calm and report write proficiently.
Responsibilities:
Fiber testing, CD, PMD, OTDR, ORL/ILM/OILM/ using EXFO/NOYES/equipment
Fault finding.
Analysis of Fiber Optic Test Results.
Design and execute system test plans
Survey existing fiber networks to enable the production of new fiber designs.
Implementing engineering scope of work.
Perform formal and informal training on solutions and technology as required.
Document results of tests and system designs. Communicate results, issues, next steps, etc. to partners, customers, and management as needed to resolve problems.
Acceptance Testing.
Perform other duties as required.
Experience:
Bachelors Degree in a technical discipline or 5 years in a telecom related field.
3 -5 years of FC related experience. Minimum of 2 years in exact role.
Leadership, initiative, pro active, logical, attention to detail, planning and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong customer support skills.
Ability to troubleshoot complex FC issues to resolution.
Knowledge of ODF, Patch Panels.
Knowledge of DF types
