German regional network operator NetCologne has connected three more districts of Bergheim to its fiber-optic broadband network. The districts Buesdorf, Fliesteden, and Glessen will get fiber-optic broadband services from the operator. NetCologne also has plans to deploy fiber optic cables in Rheidt and Huechelhoven. The project is being conducted in co-operation with partner RWE.
In 2013 NetCologne has announced plans to roll out a high-speed fiber-optic network across Eitorf, a municipality of the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with utility firm RWE Deutschland. The Cologne-based company claims that around 6,200 households and 300 businesses will be able to access the new network, which will provide maximum download speeds of up to 50Mbps. The first customer connections are expected to be activated in autumn 2014.
