The Bridgewater University has asked CapeNet to build a redundant fiber optic network to support internet services in the campus. CapeNet will deliver 2 Gbps broadband services to the Bridgewater State University in southeastern Massachusetts. The company expands its fiber optic networks in southeastern Massachusetts to deliver the required bandwidth to the university campus. CapeNet’s high speed broadband networks built with optical fiber cables, which is branded as OpenCape will provide redundancy to the broadband services in the university campus.
The University Management pursued for this additional Internet bandwidth in support of teaching, research, collaboration, learning and our residence students. The university has been experiencing a surge in bandwidth demand the users. The applications that require high bandwidth are increasing daily and it has become a necessity for the university to upgrade the speeds to enhance user experience. With a curriculum that has online and cloud-based learning-including video content and downloads-the use of bandwidth has increased exponentially for the past several years.
Nearly every school served by CapeNet requests additional bandwidth each year. CapeNet officials says their customers are data-intensive entities and require a lot of bandwidth and a higher level of protection against outages. Bridgewater University thinks that the services offered by CapeNet over their fiber optic networks are valuable tool for their institutions since OpenCape Network has virtually unlimited capacity and was designed to eliminate single points of failure.
Bridgewater State University already has a fiber-optic network that delivers broadband Internet from Boston. An additional network will provide more security and redundancy. The university wanted the security of a second “diverse” fiber link via a completely different geographic path. A redundant network will gives the school full alternative for both the physical fiber optic infrastructure and a second separate Internet service provider.
The new fiber link on the OpenCape Network travels between the Bridgewater State University campus and Providence, Rhode Island. This will be active if in any case the service goes down. At the same time, the new network will also provide much higher bandwidth capacity, enabling the university’s IT staff to load balance their Internet traffic where most needed.
