The Process of Pulling Fiber Optic Cable

UPC Cablecom has announced the acquisition of fiber optic networks that has been operated by the Television Cooperative Schmerikon. The purchase has been effective from the beginning of this year. The networks in the municipality of Schmerikon in the Canton of St. Gallen will be transferred to the ownership of UPC Cablecom. Television Cooperative Schmerikon and UPC Cablecom have been partners and the television service provider has been operating the network.

UPC Cablecom’s acquisition allows the customers of Television Cooperative to have access to the 3-in-1 cable connectivity. Existing 1.500 subscribers will get this benefit. The cable connection from UPC Cablecom combines television, internet, and telephony.

The cable television connection already offers over 70 digital television channels, 48 of those in guaranteed HD quality, more than 170 digital radio stations, and a 2 Mbps internet connection including a modem. A new addition to the 3-in-1 cable connection is a fixed network connection with no additional monthly charge.

Furthermore, the customers from Schmerikon will be able to enjoy products such as the MyPrime video service, Wi-Free, Horizon Go, or the UPC Phone app, which will allow them to make calls on the go both in Switzerland and abroad at Swiss fixed network rates.

Schmerikon is a municipality in the Wahlkreis constituency of See Gaster in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. In the local dialect, it is called Schmerike.
