Conterra deploys fibre network for San Antonio public school
Conterra Broadband Services, a provider of private fiber-optic broadband networks, deployed a new all –fiber-optic network to support the data, video, and voice requirements of the South San Antonio Independent School District’s16 locations. The multi-gigabit fiber optical network connects all of the district’s schools and administrative facilities to the South San Antonio ISD Data Center. The district serves approximately 9,854 students and 1,366 staff members. The fiber optic network will have the ability to scale to 100 gigabits per location with no supplementary construction. Cityfibre and Updata Sign UK Fibre Optic Network Access Agreement
Updata Infrastructure, which is part of Capita IT Enterprise Services and delivers public sector-focused network connectivity solutions, has today signed a new deal that will allow them to access Cityfibre’s existing UK network of urban-focused ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP) cables and related infrastructure. A present Cityfibre operates 36 major networks and they aim to deploy in a total of 50 UK cities by 2020. The new deal means that Cityfibre’s network will be harnessed as a platform for serving Updata’s growing list of the public sector and enterprise customers, as well as providing the company with an “option to migrate existing customers where commercially preferable or technically essential“
Google Fiber strikes deals to use PGE, Pacific Power utility poles
Google Fiber continues to plot out its prospective Portland fiber network, quietly signing deals to access tens of thousands of local utility poles. Portland General Electric and Pacific Power both say they have recently reached agreements with Google Fiber to allow the company to string its fiber-optic cables. That’s a key step toward deploying the network.
China pledges expansion of fiber-optic networks
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, in an annual government work report, revealed plans to build a new fiber optic network in order to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas. “Fiber-optic networks will be developed in a number of cities and 50,000 administrative villages will be linked to fiber optic networks,” Li pledged in the report he delivered Saturday at the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 12th National People’s Congress.
