ECFiber Expands Fiber Optic Networks

Vermont’s ECFiber (East Central Vermont Community Fiber-Optic Network) extends its fiber optic networks in the towns of Chelsea and Tunbridge passing about 80 potential subscribers on parts of East Randolph Road, Brook Road, Nicholette Road, Hook Road, Burbank Crossroad, Chelsea Line Road, Dickerman Hill Road, and Whitney Hill Road. ECFiber has shown steady growth in its fiber optic deployment. The current expansion includes deployment of more than 12 kilometers of fiber optic line.

ECFiber officials say the current expansion is the first of several expansions that the community initiative will be continuing this summer. ECFiber said more residents in the area are able to enjoy the benefits of locally grown, full time, state-of-the-art real broadband. ECFiber is a consortium of 24 towns in East-Central Vermont.

ECFiber builds a community owned fiber optic network to deliver high speed Internet to every home, business, or civic institution in our territory. ECFiber offers symmetrical internet access (same upload as download,) speeds of up to 400 Mbps that do not vary by time of day or according to the weather and telephone service with unlimited USA and Canada long distance calling.

ECFiber charges a modest installation fee of $99 for residences and $150 for businesses. For large or complex installations they assess an additional installation charge of $75 per hour for any installation work in excess of two hours. ECFiber will connect any premise that is within 400 feet of the nearest drop connection point on a utility pole, with an aerial fiber-optic cable, at no additional charge. For premises that are further away or that require underground cabling, additional fees may apply. Payment can be made over several months.
